Plasma is heavier, less expensive, better colors. LCD is lighter, uses less power (for the most part) and doesn’t have the deepest blacks compared to plasma, It’s a judgement call, I picked plasma for the better picture.
1080p only matters if you have a blu ray player. HDTV is transmitted in 720p or 1080i.
I work at Best Buy and if you want LCD I will tell you SAMSUNG ALL THE WAY!!! They have amazing clarity and they have one of the best contrast ratios (Comparison of black to white) of all brands
i have a Hitchi 42″ plasma TV. i’ve had it for about a year now. it has an HDMI input for high definition and a PC input for your computer. the humming is very quiet and barely noticeable. We payed around $2500 for it at Sears. We also decided that Sears was the cheapest to buy TV’s, the prices are way better than best buy or circuit city, and they’ll deliver it to your house and set it up for no extra charge. I would definitely recommend this deal to anyone.
an lcd is better for video games, less chance of pixel burn in, where a plasma can burn in quickly
a plasma has crisper colors and blacker blacks
so it depends on what suits you
1080i isn’t important per say, but it’s like asking if air conditioning is important in a car…. once you buy, you have what you have and can’t add it in, even if you didn’t originally think you’d need it. you may later on get an hd satellite or cable box and miss having it, so you mays as well now, even if you won’t use it… not like it costs any more money, you just have to shop choosier
Yes, 1080 is very important. It is the resolution of the future, If you are planning to have this TV for a long time, then you need 1080. Verizon FIOS nearly has the technology to broadcast stations in 1080, they are very close. It is also important for Bluray players.
Plasma is much better than LCD. It has deeper blacks and does not blur! During fast-moving sports, like baseball, an LCD will sometimes blur the fast moving object, like a baseball. Plasmas are also better for watching movies, because of the deeper blacks. They also have a hugely better viewing angle than LCDs. The life on Plasmas used to be not premium, but they have improved and their life expectancy is around 60,000 hours. Also, the burn-in time on Plasmas has greatly improved lately and isn’t a huge problem since there are aren’t many ways you can make your screen stay still. And on Panasonics when you leave it on there is a little psinning icon in the right hand bottom corner of the screen to prevent burn in.
I myself own a 50″ Panasonic Plasma TV, and I love it. I
previously bought a 42″, but decided it was too small. But the brand I recommend is Pioneer. They make the best quality Plasmas, even though they are a bit more expensive. If you don’t want to spend the extra dough, just go for a Panasonic, they are fine.
The only sizes around your range for Plasmas are 37″, 42″ and 50″.
lcd is much better than plasma, the quality is close but plasma has a glare to any kind of light i just got a 40 inch samsung lcd and love it, goes to 1080i and i have a ps3 the graphics would blow u away that is my choice, the second is the vizio nice picture
if your gonna get 42-46 you might as well make it fullHD
it depends what your budget is.
i would reccomend LCD as ive heard stuff about the filters burning out in plasma n ****.
plasma delivers deep blacks and LCD is jus generally good all round.

Samsung LCD TV. In terms of heat control, LCD fares better than that of plasma technology.

LCDs have a better variety of sizes.
But I recommend a Plasma.
