there is always problems with new stuff, get a warranty if its new, iwould for sure but id get the most advanced technology that you can afford, even some of the newer tvs are going to be obsolete soon, they keep changing stuff

LCD. Because they last much longer and they don’t have that rubbish shiny coating on top that acts like a mirror. And they are cheaper. (I think)
The LCD has a longer life.
ok tottaly go for the lcd because if you leave plasma on to long then a picture will be burned into your screen. i went to subway came back and the word ~paused~ was burned into my t.v. ive also heard that plasma can cause cancer. Very low chance but still =/

For larger size TV, I will go for Plasma TV. Anything below 40″ I will chose LCD.
NEITHER, 32 INCH IS WIDE ENOUGH.I dont bother about plasma,HD ready or anything else so long as i get the programs i want and the picture and sound is top class,just like phillips.I did go for an LCD tv though.
The Only Difference is in the life span of the item. Lcd is liquid crystal display. it takes energy to heat the crystals to a certain temp to produce color. and plasma is an ever flowwing liquid so it takes less therefore plasma lasts longer. i would go with the plasma on life of product.
We got the LCD TV because the surface is not glass like with the Plasma TV. When the surface is glassy, you see all of the reflections very clearly. Check it out for yourself at any store where you can see both TVs side-by-side. Shine a flashlight at the screens and you’ll see what I mean.
well i baught a 40″ Hdtv Lcd and well i love the hell out of it lol but its not gonna make a diffrence if you dont have a hd converter or hdmi cables you will get the same picture of a tube television but lcd is doing great no probs so far i have Vizio and i got it at walmart for like 1,025 i think but hey go to the walmart website and they have a big screen there for less than 700$ but if u need any more question feel free to write to me
There are several factors you need to consider with either type of flatscreen TV.
LCD :
Better for rooms with a lot of uncontrolled light (ie bright light from windows). The screen surface is more glare/reflection resistant than plasmas.
LCDs are generally less expensive for comparable screen sizes than plasmas.
LCDs come in a greater range of sizes anywhere from 19″ to 52″.
Electronics stores (Best Buy, Circuit City, etc.) tend to turn the brightness way up to emphasize the strengths of LCDs = bright scenes. LCDs tend to struggle with dark scenes as they cannot produce the blacks that a plasma can.
Plasmas:
Plasmas generally produce much better black levels and are better with motion (not as much motion blur as LCDs).
Plasmas use more electricity than LCDs.
Plasmas tend to only come in larger sizes – 42 inches up to 65 inches.
Burn-in on the newest generation plasmas is virtually non-existent. Don’t believe the hype.
My advice:
If you have a room where you can control the light (good curtains), and want/need a large TV (42″ or larger), I’d recommend a plasma. Panasonic makes excellent plasmas – they’re the “Toyota” of plasmas – good bang for the buck. The new Pioneer Kuros are the best out there but are pricey – they’re the “Mercedes” of plasmas.
If you have a bright room with lots of light, I’d go for an LCD. The reflections off a glass plasma will drive you crazy. The big three LCD producers are the three “S’s” = Sony, Samsung, and Sharp. Hard to go wrong with either of these brands.
Finally, keep in mind that there’s a lot of hype over 1080p resolution. The human eye cannot “see” the difference between 720p/1080i on a 42″ or smaller screen. Don’t let the 1080p hype drive your selection too much. Besides, the only source that even outputs 1080p is a Blu-ray player/XBOX 360. No broadcast either over the air, cable, or satellite transmits in 1080p (1080i and 720p only).
i said if your a movie person go for plasma which lcd cant take fast motion if your a sport go for a lcd

Plasma tv advantages :
No “ghost images” on tv when playing action movies.
Higher contrast for plasma tv, as high as 20000:1
Better picture quality compare to LCD tv.
Better resulation on black and white portions on the images and movies (that means black color is truely black nor dark gray)
Most of the answers above are pretty accurate, but I have a plasma, 42″, Sylvania, and don’t have any problems with reflection, side viewing, or any of the other things said about plasmas. We had an LCD before, it was the “glarey’ one. Even though it might cost you a few dollars, (the TV is a big investment), you may want to try them out like we did, by renting one first. That way you see what it will do in YOUR home, not a showroom. Just be careful not to sign a long term contract, or one that has penalties for canceling it. We definitely went with the plasma over the LCD after seeing them both in our home.
