im looking to get an LCD or plasma TV mostly in the 46″ size…… in the store the plasma looks way better but alot of people are telling me the LCD is better…..which one should i get ?
I will use it for gaming and movies but mostly gaming… (ps3)
LCD’s are best for gaming because they don’t have the burn in effect. Plasma’s are best for movies because the technology provides greater detail, and better contrasts. If you’re a heavy gamer, I’d go with an LCD. However, newer plasmas are less prone to burn ins. You may want to ask the retailer if you’re looking to take the gamble.
lcd for gaming is far better and more suited to a computer
to suit a ps3 go for a sony bravia they are industry leaders and make the best quality tvs around – especialy those made in japan
for a time in history plasmas were better but times have changed and lcd’s offer so much more
they may be a little more pricy but the quality is better
the only real match for a sony lcd is a pioneer kuro plasma but if your playing games lcd is the best
btw dont get to worried about motion blur – 100hz is more than enough and a dynamic contrast used to be important but now everyone claims figures in the millions which is just crap
if you buy a sony or panasonic you have no worries espicialy if its a good one and you wont regret it
I went to two places last week an asked then this same question last week, one was a family owned TV store, the other was Best Buy, they BOTH said Plasma is the way to go. LEDs are overrated (Even though I was looking into one) it’s STILL an LCD but it just has different lights on the back, which is awesome, but Plasmas still have better contrast (Deeper Blacks). Burn in is no longer much of an issue, it’s very hard to get burn in unless you plan on looking at a red and blue screen for 24 hours then you switch to a white screen, you might notice something. Plasmas are also cheeper. The only downsides are if you have a bright room, they get reflective, so I’d go with LCD, they also use a little more power, and give off a little more heat, but that has also been decreased a lot. But Plasmas usually have 600Hz so there is no motionblur, most LCDs have either 60Hz or 120Hz, but you can barely notice a difference. Go to BestBuy, and ask anyone there will tell you Plasma unless it’s for a bright room, or you’re using it as a monitor.
Oh yes I forgot to mention viewing angles, plasmas can be viewed 180 degrees around the screen, so no matter where you are in the room, you’ll see the same picture (Same color, etc.). Although this is become a slightly less problems with newer LCDs, Plasmas still have an edge over them.
Plasma probably still has a slight edge when it comes to picture quality. Burn in is not much of an issue now days as they use pixel shifting to remedy that problem. Plasma sets are more complicated on the inside, run hotter, use more electricity.
I would go with a standard LCD or a new LED illuminated LCD. They are a less complicated design, they don’t have a highly reflective screen and they run cooler and consume lots less electricity. Picture quality is great and the newer faster panels will have a minimum of ghosting and motion blur.
Stick with a name brand such as Sony, Samsung, Sharp, Toshiba, Panasonic and you will be very happy.

plasma is better in fast motion and it is gentle on eyes
some LCDs are bad with motion you may have some blur or ghosting picture
lcd is better but try and get an led screen they are more expesive but will be future proof so cheper in the long run.

Just my two cents.
