Trying to decide on a new TV?

46 plasma tv
Chris asked:

Here are my options,

Samsung B7100
Samsung B6000
Panasonic TH 65PZ850U
Samsung PN58B850
Panasonic Viera TH-58PZ800
Samsung LN52A750
Samsung LN52A850
Pioneer PRO 111FD
Pioneer PDP-5020FD

The preferred size would be 46″+
LCD vs. Plasma is of no concern, what I want is the best possible picture for blu-ray, xbox360, and movies in general, I have a surround sound system so audio quality is also not too important. I’m looking for a TV that is compatible with the Logitech Harmony One remote which I’m pretty sure all of those are. I want the blackest blacks and the smoothest refresh rates which will be ideal for ******** gaming and action movies.

Thanks guys

If you can afford it, go with the pioneer or the higher pioneer elite. It is the best tv you can buy and the closes one comes close is the Samsung 52″ LCD. Don’t take my word for it, go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on both models. Of course you are the one going to be using it, go to Best buy and watch both models. Bring your own DVD or Blue ray disc for a demo. Hope this helps..

    Hello

Just some advice from the TV Trade (im a TV engineer) Pioneer have announced that they are pulling out of the TV market so spares are hard to come by if it needs anything done to it, I recommend the Panasonic or Samsung TVs as they have good picture quality and are well manufactured, Panasonic have a better backup and personally a better picture,

This is the article address for the pioneer pulling out the TV Market:

Outright quality the Pioneer models are going to serve you best. The Kuro and Kuro Elite TVs are really second to none in quality. But they do cost quite a steep price. Also, as the other poster has commented, Pioneer is exiting the TV business. So if something were to go wrong with the TV in the future, you may have to rely on someone using another brand’s parts to try and get your Pioneer back up and running.

After the Kuro, the best bet is the Panasonic Viera 800/850 series or now the G10 series (2009). That is going to give you as close to a Pioneer quality Plasma as you’ll find. And its a heck of a lot more affordable. Both the 65″ and 58″ models you list are amazing sets. I’d go with either of those in an instant.

The Samsung LED LCDs are solid for LCD, but they’re not as good as Plasma. The LED backlight still doesn’t match Plasma in terms of blacks, colors, and contrast. Its a huge step up for LCD, but its not Plasma. Also, LCD still hasn’t perfect motion playback. Its still susceptible to motion blur issues. While the 120Hz or 240Hz refresh rates might help, again you’re not getting Plasma results (which has a near instantaneous refresh like a CRT). All that being said, if you had to go LCD, the Samsung LED LCD is your best choice for sure.
