i plan to buy a plasma for the smaller room i have. im looking for a 40-46 inch range. i plan to spend 1500-2000 hopefully get it on ebay a bit cheaper. any ideas of what i should look at or what a good brand is?
Samsung, Panasonic, LG, Toshiba, Hitachi, all make good sets you should really try to see which one has the best picture to you first before you buy. Go to your local electronics store and see which brand strikes you the most and bid on that one if not one similar to the one you saw in the store
I think you will regret buying plasma. They are starting to show numerous issues already. I have searched the archives for different technologies in TV for problems, and I can tell you that the vast majority of problems are with Plasma and DLP. The only one that has passing marks is LCD, and the two best ones there are SONY and SAMSUNG, in that order. I researched this for weeks before I got my Sony 42″ LCD HDTV ( NOT HD-READY) Grand Wega. The Sony 42″ Bravia is the same but with a few added features, like 2 HDMI in-puts & a USB port.
The Grand Wega & Bravia are interface engines which produce good resolution in HD & Digital.

Actually, Samsung and Phillips/Magnavox are THE worst in quality/reliability.
Both have the highest failure rates above all other brands. Also the worst support.
Since Sony dosnt do Plasma anymore, look into their LCD line.
Sony and Toshiba rule the LCD world, no other brand can even come close.
As for the Plasma, the Pioneer Elite are the best. But out of your price range.
For about that price, I would HIGHLY recommend the 42″ Toshiba Plasma. They make the 2nd best plasma besides pioneer.
Dollar for dollar, take a hard look at the Panasonic TH42PX series (42″plasma) for around $1300. Pretty highly rated, for the price.
