Plasma can be a concern in a room with more light as the screen tends to be more reflective, but brands have put films to make that less of an issue. Also Plasma performs better with motion as they do not have the refresh rate issue that LCD technology has. If you are seeing jerky motion on a Plasma it is more likely the signal source than the TV itself. Plasma does draw more power, especially since going up to 1080P, but Plasma has dramatically improved over time. New Energy Star standards are making sure that Plasma improves. Plasma is also better for 3D.

Most important is that you need to change the settings on TVs on display in stores. They are factory set with a default, and based on your preferences you may not like the way the default is set. They sets performance and ability to set brighter, sharper, darker, and such need to adjusted to be seen and for you to really decide what you like.

The best value for you money is still DLP , you could go above a 60" for the price you pay for any flat panel. With LED as a light source you no longer worry about the bulb being replaced every three years. DLP is also the best for 3D using the shutter glass technology.

Plasma TV is prefect for fast action moving image . smooth with out motion blur . due to 0.01 ms response time and 600 HZ refresh rate.
motion blur cannot be " cut off " , only cover -hide away by fast response time and refresh rate to make our eye more comfortable.due to best response time for LED is 2ms and LCD TV is 4ms . best refresh rate is 120 HZ ur 240 HZ. keep in mind , 1 ms response time make great difference just like F1 ,1sec faster become champion.
Burn in / over heating / high power consumption / less brightness in bright room ? all this become history .
Panasonic NEW NEO Plasma technology ( after 2009 models ) with out burn in / over heat issue even still image - gaming for long hours - even over night . * with built in anti burn in electronics circuit to prevent burn-in . 60,000 hours life time as good as LCD/LED TV. Z series up to 100,000 hour ( 50 % brightness )
also power consumptions no difference to same screen size LCD TV. no problems to watch clear pictures in any condition - bright room .
Remember . only Panasonic use new Plasma technology , no other able to " copy " as some of the designs is under PATENTS by Pioneer-Panasonic.
Samsung Plasma VS Panasonic Plasma
Samsung excellence in LED / LCD TV but come to Plasma is 2 to 3 year behind Panasonic .
Panasonic 42 inc 2010 models power consumption is around 180 W / 50 inc about 240 W
Samsung 42 inc is around 340 W / 50 inc is around 480 w
Panasonic Plasma 2009 / 2010 models is excellence PREFECT . Samsung Plasma any models just acceptable great but not that excellence compare to Panasonic neo Plasma patents technology.
Panasonic Plasma 720P vs 1080 P
1080 P models excellence for blu-ray.
720 P models not so great for blu-ray. but excellence for general . game and HD channel consider excellence.

While it may be hard to believe, the PLASMA TV has the higher quality compared to the LCD. This is because of the processor on the LCD. I would go with the PLASMA, as if the correct settings are used, the only drawback would be burn-in. Be sure to check out cnet.com to see what are the best settings for your TV.

Hold on there a second!

Are you guys watching Standard definition sources on this TV? Because if you are, then the picture quality is going to be crap! Standard definition looks bad on a HDTV. If you want to use the TV for what it's meant for, then you'll need to contact your cable/satellite provider and ask to be upgraded to High definition. You'll also want to make sure you have at least a Upconverting DVD player or better yet, a Blu-ray player!

If this is not the case then maybe you got a hold of a crappy LCD! Plasma TV's have the best picture quality followed closely by LED backlit LCD's! Panasonic and Samsung make some of the best Plasma's in the business unless you can find a Pioneer(which are very expensive). Samsung makes the best LED's!

Spend what you can afford on a Projector and a good quality screen.

This will give far better performance and it will outlast both Plasma and LCD. all you have to do is replace the lamp every time the hours are reached.

Look at the SIM2 range or Infotec for a DLP Projector

I don't think the pixels will matter, but, is it safe to play games on the plasmas?
I was told if you leave something on for too long it will burn the image into the screen, which I thought of games when told that.
If you walk away with a game on, is that going to be a problem? I don't have games yet, but, am interested in them.
Good Question, thanks.

LCD is great. If 'not that great' mean picture quality bigger size is not a factor for picture. It depend on what tv you get and their specification. If you want one that have good picture quality you should go with one that have high dynamic contrast ratio and less response time value will give you better response.

Normally plasma have better picture quality and smoother motion picture if you have dark room, it would be glare in bright room.

LED is the lastest technology for hdtv it have great picture with mega dynamic contrast ratio, very thin and less power consumption.

Personally I would go with LED tv.
